Queen Elizabeth University Hospital - Glasgow
The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) is a 1,677-bed acute hospital located in Shieldhall (Govan) in the south-west of Glasgow. The hospital is built on the site of the former Southern General Hospital and comprises a newly built 1,109-bed adult hospital, a 256-bed children’s hospital and two major Emergency Departments, one for adults and one for children, in addition to buildings retained from the former hospital.
The hospital has the biggest critical care complex and one of the biggest emergency departments in Scotland. While some parts of QUEH have their own distinct identity and dedicated specialist staff, such as the Royal Hospital for Children, each is completely integrated with linkages for patient transfer and emergency care, and Dams Furniture was proud to be awarded the furniture contract for the Aroma coffee areas in the Main Atrium, the main dining facility, Children’s department and the Education and Learning Centre.
The Slab table and bench combination is a perfect example of a clean, understated style with its simple shape and smooth straight lines, making this table ideal for any dining area where space is at a premium. Dams proposed a clean white table top, combining matching edging and a bright orange internal finishes to create a more personalised look, with bench seat pads in a neutral, complementary grey fabric.
The stylish Gecko dining chairs feature moulded seats which are designed for maximum comfort and durability due to the easy clean curvaceous shape. Supplied with matching orange backs for a fun and easy match with the decorating style, the Gecko chairs not only go perfectly with the circular dining height tables, but also contribute to the unique appearance of the white seat dining chairs.
When the hospital opened its doors, locals nicknamed it the "Death Star" due to its star-shaped design, large size and the landing pad for aircraft on the roof. But today Queen Elizabeth University Hospital is the largest hospital campus in Europe and is recognised as a truly stunning building that creates a unique environment from the moment you step inside.
